Nawaz’s personal physician Dr Adnan Malik attacked in London
Monitoring Report
LONDON: Former premier Nawaz Sharif’s personal physician Dr Adnan Malik came under attack late Monday night in London.
According to Express News, the physician was out for an evening walk in the British capital when he was attacked by two masked men with steel rods.
Confirming the attack, a family member said Dr Malik sustained injuries on his face and body and was shifted to a hospital. A complaint has been filed but the Metropolitan Police is yet to make an arrest.
However, the Scotland Yard said it is treating the attack as street crime and added that the men robbed Dr Malik of his watch.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) pegged the incident as an attempt to sabotage the three-time prime minister’s medical treatment.
The party’s president, Shehbaz Sharif, said the incident appeared to be well-thought-out and hoped the Met Police will apprehend the suspects. Shehbaz recalled that the Sharif families’ residences have previously also faced attacks.
Ahsan Iqbal also condemned the attack and prayed for Dr Malik’s early recovery.
The former premier’s stay in the United Kingdom has become a bane of conflict between the incumbent government and the PML-N.
Nawaz, along with Shehbaz and Dr Malik, left Pakistan on November 20, 2019 – four days after the LHC directed the federal government to remove Nawaz’s name from the ECL for four weeks. Previously, the IHC suspended his senetence in Al Azizia case so he could receive medical treatment abroad.
