ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 to go ahead as scheduled: ICC
LONDON: The way things are unfolding at the moment due to the coronavirus pandemic, apprehensions are growing over whether the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be held as per schedule or not. All the major international and domestic events in the game have been either called off or suspended in the wake of the outbreak.
But despite things looking very gloomy at the moment, the ICC, on Tuesday, said the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2020 will “go ahead as scheduled”. The Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 is scheduled to be played between October 18 to November 15 at seven venues across Australia.
The Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin with a pre-qualifying tournament held from October 18-23, while the main 12-team competition is set to kick off with a match between Australia and Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground and then India versus South Africa at Perth Stadium on October 24.
“In response to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 Local Organising Committee is monitoring the situation closely with relevant authorities, and will continue to do so,” ICC said in a statement.
“The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from 18 October-15 November 2020 in seven venues across Australia. We are planning for the event to go ahead as scheduled,” the statement added. – AP
