Govt to form customs border security force to curb smuggling

ISLAMABAD: The federal government gave approval to the formation of a customs border security force to curb smuggling and ensure transit safety of goods, documents seen by Geo News revealed on Wednesday.
The documents revealed that the government eased restrictions regarding the new hirings for the force.
The customs department has approved new positions from grade 1 to 21, documents showed.
According to sources, the customs border security force personnel will be deployed at Afghanistan and Iran borders.
The documents further showed that the anti-smuggling outfit will also man border crossings with India, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Tharparkar.
A newspaper reported last week that the Federal Board of Revenue detected trade irregularities in cargoes under the Afghan Transit Trade. Following which the authorities introduced measures to ensure transit safety of goods.
The report said that the FBR detected large misuse of cargoes by importers, who rendered massive losses to the national exchequer by misdeclaring goods.
