Shoaib Akhtar, Rashid Latif slam vision-less Babar Azam
LAHORE: Former Pakistan cricketers Rashid Latif and Shoaib Akhtar have criticised the aptitude of the Men in Green top-order batsman, Babar Azam, as the national side’s captain in limited-overs formats.
While speaking on a local television show, former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman, Latif, said that Azam should talk about his vision during press conferences rather than things we already know.
Azam recently took part in a teleconference where he spoke about various matters, including his English language speaking skills, comparison with Indian skipper Virat Kohli and being an attacking captain like Imran Khan.
“When captain is sitting in a press conference, he gives insight about his vision but this was clearly lacking,” said Latif. “Our captain is giving headlines about language barrier and things we already know, like comparison with Virat Kohli.”
“Babar should have made a strong statement rather than just following the script given to him. You have already showcased that your mental attitude and approach is not up to the mark,” he added.
Meanwhile, former speedster, Akhtar, said Azam needs to take a leaf out of legendary all-rounder and current Prime Minister Imran Khan’s book.
“Babar Azam wants to be a captain like Imran Khan but this does not mean that it will only be related to playing cricket. He needs to take a leaf out of PM Imran’s book with regards to personality as well,” said Akhtar.
The Rawalpindi Express also pointed out few areas of the game, which Azam needs to improve in order to live up to expectations.
“Please don’t speak about things which we already know from the past 10 years. We won’t buy this argument,” he said. “Babar has to sharpen up his communication skills, his personality, ability to lead from the front, fitness level etc. I think he has a lot to prove.” – Agencies
