PESHAWAR: The Taliban have expressed the desire to work with the international community, after capturing Kabul and establishing control over most of Afghanistan on Sunday [15 August].
Dr Mohammad Naeem, the spokesman for the Taliban’s political office, told media that the war in Afghanistan was over and that the new system of government would soon be made clear to the world.
“Today, the Taliban have reaped the fruits of 20 years of struggle. We do not want to harm anyone. We are ready to talk to all Afghan leaders and will take every step responsibly for peace,” Dr Naseem assured. The spokesman said that no one will be allowed to use Afghan soil against anyone and the group will not interfere in the affairs of any other country. He said they want other countries to stop interference in Afghanistan. “Hopefully, foreign forces will not repeat their failed experiments in Afghanistan,” Dr Naeem expressed the home.
The Taliban spokesman added that having achieved the goal of “liberating their country”, the Taliban are ready to talk to all Afghan leaders and guarantee their safety. He added that they had no idea that Dr Ashraf Ghani will escape from the country.
Naeem said the Taliban want peaceful relations with the international community and no diplomatic missions or headquarters has been targeted during the Taliban struggle against the Afghan government. He assured that the Taliban will protect civilians and diplomatic missions, and called on the international community to work and restore durable peace. Dr Naeem also assured that that Taliban believe in the rights, responsibilities and freedom of women and minorities and will be protecting as per the Islamic Sharia.
Meanwhile former president Hamid Karzai has denied reports of leaving Afghanistan. In a statement, Karzai said he would remain in the country. “People should stay at home as the leadership is working to resolve all issues through dialogue,” he urged.
