Shaheen informed tthat talks are underway for new government comprising all fictions in Afghanistan and names of the selected Afghan leaders to run the country will be announced soon. He maintained that elections are impossible rights now are there is power vacuum while they have also to prepare new constitution. Recently, a high-level Taliban delegation met with the Chinese Foreign Minister in which the Chinese Foreign Minister said that he hoped that Afghanistan would adopt a modern Islamic policy.
The Taliban seized the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Sunday, August 15, 2021. Immediately after their control, several key government officials, including US troops and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, fled the country. The Taliban have announced a general amnesty and expressed that desire that they are ready to work with the international community to restore lasting peace and prosperity in Afghanistan.
Meanwhile British Army chief General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter said that the Taliban’s attitude may be different this time around, so they should be given a chance. He urged that the Taliban should be given a chance to form a government in Afghanistan.
Carter informed that he is in contact with former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who met with the Taliban delegation. He said, “We have to show patience, we have to control our nerves and give the Taliban a chance to form a government.” His views were strongly criticised by British lawmakers, journalists and others and rejected his estimate as wrong.
