PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have arrested two accused on charges of putting up a congratulatory billboard for the Afghan Taliban in Government College Chowk of the city.
The FIR [First Information Report] says the accused have been charged under 123-A, ‘endangering the sovereignty of Pakistan’, ‘damaging the image of Pakistan internationally’ for displaying the pro-Taliban billboard. According to police, the Billboard was put up on behalf of the Jamiat-e-Islami’s Peshawar Naib Amir Sabir Hussain Awan. One of the party’s official said, “the boards have been removed it was installed “without consultation” with the party.
Earlier, the Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq has also congratulated the Taliban for victory in Afghanistan. Addressing a rally, Haq has said that the Taliban have defeated the United States and its allies after two decades long structure and sacrifices. Haq has also urged Pakistan and the world to make no delay in recognising the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Haq has said, “The defeat of American colonialism in the neighboring country is a proud milestone for the Islamic world.”
Haq claimed the victory of the Taliban has left “India in mourning” and now Afghan territory will not be used against Pakistan.
The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has also congratulated the Taliban their “victory” against the United States-backed government. In his congratulatory message, he has also assured complete support for making new government.
Another islamist party, the Jamaat-e-Ulema Islam – Sami (JUI-S) chief Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq also congratulated the Taliban on their “victory against US forces.” Addressing a news conference at Peshawar press club, he had paid tributes to Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Mullah Hebatullah and Taliban fighters. “My father, Maulana Samiul Haq’s dream came true,” he said. He claimed that the Taliban did not fire a single shot during their efforts to free Afghanistan. Haq urged Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to recognise the Taliban government.
