PESHAWAR: The United States withdrawal from Afghanistan has created difficulties for the Joe Biden administration and will be the most important political weapon with Donald Trump in next year’s congressional elections.
Speaking to Mashreq TV via Skype from the United States, senior Voice of America journalist and analyst Perez Zubirshah said, “the Biden administration is under intense pressure at the moment and its popularity has declined.”
The US congressional elections will be held next year and analysts believe that the decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan will have direct impacts on the process. Shah said that currently, it is the most important political issue in the United States. He said Afghan refugees continue to arrive in the United States and so far about 37,000 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan to United States.
The US officials said that most of them with US citizenship or holding US green cards or visas. The officials said that refugees who have worked with Americans but do not have a US visa will also be allowed to come to the United States, Canada and Europe after an investigation. The journalist said the Afghans now wants the Taliban to protect the achievements of the past 20 years, protect human rights and do not harm the developmental work carried out by the former Afghan governments.
Analysts believe that no one Washington was expecting that Taliban will take such a swept control of Afghanistan; however, there was an agreement that the Afghan conflict cannot be resolve by force. It was also expected and confirmed that the US wants to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan but now President Biden is accused to have mismanaged the whole withdrawal process
There is general perception in the US that that despite spending trillion of dollars and losing precious lives, the US has lost the war and its trained Afghan forces failed to offer any resistance.
