PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved the purchase of 111 vehicles – including seven SUVs [Support Utility Vehicle] – for provincial government officials.
The government sources said that new vehicles will be procured for sub-divisional officers including chief engineers, sub-engineers and executive engineers of the communications department at a cost of Rs600 million.

The details show that a total of seven Support Utility Vehicle will be procured for Chief Engineers of Communications and works department of the province. The cost of each unit has been fixed at Rs9.2 million and thus Rs64.4 million has been allocated for the procurement of seven SUVs.
Besides SUVs, official document shows, 14 sedans vehicles will also be procured for all engineers at the cost of Rs4m for each vehicle. Similarly, 30 double cabin SUVs will be procured for executive engineers across the province. The cost of each vehicle is Rs7mn and a total of Rs210m will be spent for these vehicles. The government will also purchase 60 jeeps for sub-divisional officers. The sources said that each unit will cost Rs4.5m and a total of Rs270m will be spent on the purchase of jeeps. The provincial government will spend Rs604m on the purchase of a total of 111 vehicles.
KP to purchase 111 vehicles for government officials over next three years under the proposed project under Annual Development Program (ADP) and Rs199.9mn has been allocated for the project during the current fiscal year.
According to sources in the Planning and Development Department (P&D), the communications department has been allowed to purchase the vehicles after the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) approved the procurement of new vehicles. However, the PWDP has said that the NOC from finance department is necessary for this purpose.
The provincial government has set up a special committee headed by the finance secretary. The committee has the responsibility to allow the purchase of new vehicles for government officials and auctioned off used vehicles.
