PESHAWAR: Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja has termed the abrupt postponement of series ‘disappointing’ and promised action against New Zealand.
In a twitter post, Raja said that ‘New Zealand will hear us at ICC’.
According to a PCB spokesperson, the New Zealand Cricket Board had informed that they have been alerted regarding security and unilaterally decided to postpone the series. The spokesperson said in a statement that the Pakistan Cricket Board and the government of Pakistan had made foolproof arrangements for the security of the visiting team.
The first match between Pakistan and New Zealand was scheduled to take place at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on Friday, but players and support staff were not allowed to the ground and gates were closed for spectators. “Crazy day it has been! Feel so sorry for the fans and our players. Walking out of the tour by taking a unilateral approach on a security threat is very frustrating. Especially when it’s not shared!! Which world is NZ living in??NZ will hear us at ICC,” the PCB chairman said.
Pakistan National Team captain also echoed same felling saying that he was extremely disappointed on the abrupt postponement of the series, which could have brought the smiles back for millions of Pakistan Cricket Fans. “I have full trust in the capabilities and credibility of our security agencies. They are our pride and always will be,” Babar said in his Twitter post.
Information Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that Prime Minister Imran Khan contacted the Prime Minister of New Zealand and assured that the NZ team in Pakistan has foolproof security. The minister said, “Our intelligence agencies are among the best agencies in the world and in their opinion there is no threat to the NZ team, however the Prime Minister of NZ requested to postpone the visit in view of the policy of extreme caution.”
