PESHAWAR: Days after the gory incident in Lower Dir, in another clash as many as nine people were killed while over six sustained injuries on Monday morning in Barawal Banadagai area of Upper Dir.
The Police said that the incident occurred during jirga called to resolve to resolve the dispute over a piece of land. The police said that the number of deaths can further rise as most of the injured are stated to be in precarious condition in local hospitals.
The police said that the incident occurred in Barawal village between Jahan Alam and Bacha Munir group who has a dispute over a piece of land. After the tragedy, citizens staged protest by placing the dead bodies on the road accusing the government and judicial system of failure to resolve pity land disputes. During the protest, protesters also burned a vehicle. Police have deployed a heavy contingent of police to avoid further bloodshed between the two groups.
On 16 September, as many as nine people were killed and 16 other got injured in clash over land dispute in Toormang area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Dir district. According to police, the shootout took place at a funeral ceremony where both sides the used automatic weapons against each other.
Yesterday, three persons were killed and two others seriously injured in a shootout between two sides in Halimzai Tehsil of Mohmand District over land dispute. According to details, a land dispute between Rasool Khan and Zewar Shah families had been going on for three years but neither the police, Jirga and courts could resolve the dispute between the two parties.
IG takes notice
Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Moazzam Jah Ansari took notice of the incident and directed the Regional Police Office (RPO) Malakand to submit a detailed report. Ansari directed the police officials to take immediate action to stop further bloodshed and bring the offenders to justice. The IGP also ordered to provide full security to iirga and activate the despite Resolution Council (DRC) to end the local disputes.
