PESHAWAR: A special cycling ceremony was held in Mexican capital to welcome the All-Girl Robotics Team who has received asylum in Mexico.
The all-girl robotics team, along with dozens of Mexican girls, cycled throughout the city to the monument of independence. This special ceremony was called “Mexico Holds You”.

In an interview with Agence France-Presse, a member of the Afghan girls’ robotics team, who was not named in the report for security reasons, thanked the Mexican government for organizing the event. Mexico’s Deputy Foreign Minister Martha Delgado Peralta has provided asylum to the members of Afghanistan’s robotics team on humanitarian grounds. Delgado also took part in the cycling ceremony.
Tens of thousands of Afghans who saw their lives in danger fled Afghanistan after the Taliban took power. More than 391 Afghans, most of them who worked as translators for foreign forces, are said to have moved to Mexico with their families. The Mexico government has also pledged to support the Afghan girls and women who are facing it difficult to pursue their education and passion because of the Taliban take over.
The Afghan girls’ robotics team rose to international prominence after winning a special prize at the World Robotics Competition in 2017. The group has now developed a kind of artificial respiration device from old car parts to help the Covid-19 patients.
After their arrival to Mexico, the deputy Foreign Minister has greeted them in a news conference and announced that the government will arrange warm welcome for the robotic team. The Afghan girls have thanked Mexican authorities for “saving their lives” by providing them shelter.
The Taliban have seized power in Afghan on 15 August 2021 after the United States and its allies left the country after 20 year long war. The United States have evacuated all foreigners and and vulnerable from the country by August 31 deadline agreed with the Taliban.
