PESHAWAR: The Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed grave concern and criticised government for prolonged power cuts and tripping in city bazaars and shopping markets.
The SCCI and urged the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) to ensure uninterrupted power supply for smooth business and commercial activities. The representative of Muslim Meena, Karimpura Bazar, Ghanta Ghar, Jhanda Bazaar, Reeti Bazar and Gulshan Bazaar lamented that they are facing long hours of power-cuts.

They termed the six to eight hours unannounced power outages an anti-business step and demanded of the PESCO to resolve the issue immediately, otherwise, traders’ community will be forced to protest. “Business activities are adversely affected owing to hours-long electricity load-shedding and tripping,” the traders said.
They urged that there was no justification for carrying out prolonged power cuts in winter. “The provincial economy along with the law and order situation had been already affected owing to Covid-19 lockdown, extortion and kidnapping for ransom,” the traders said. They said KP is producing electricity in surplus quantity, despite the fact that people of the province are facing prolonged electricity load-shedding, which was unbearable and highly condemnable.
