PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari alleged that those who had “selected” Imran Khan as prime minister have now admitted their “mistake”.
Addressing a press conference outside the accountability court in Islamabad, Zardari said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government will not be able to complete its five-year tenure as the countdown has begun. Zardari along with his lawyer Farooq Naik appeared before the court and filed a petition for pre-arrest bail. During the hearing, lawyer Naik said that the Islamabad High Court had granted pre-arrest bail to Zardari while NAB is now filing another petition after the amended ordinance. He further said that after the new ordinance, the accountability court has been empowered to grant bail to the accused in NAB cases. Farooq Naik requested the court to uphold the pre-arrest bail order.
The court accepted Zardari’s request for pre-arrest bail and directed him to submit bail bond of Rs500, 000. The court issued notice to the NAB on the application and adjourned the hearing till 23 November.
When Journalists questioned Asif Ali Zardari that a former judge has submitted an affidavit that Saqib Nisar had asked to reject the bail pleas of Maryam Nawaz and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Zardari said that Maryam Nawaz is like his daughters, thus, he will not talk about her. “We have already seen this situation in the past with Justice Qayyum has taps of Saif-ur-Rehman and some friends.”
Meanwhile, the PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on the International Day for Tolerance said that intolerance is a cause of concern. The only way to promote tolerance was to strengthen democracy. Bilawal further said that electoral frauds, dictatorship and obstruction of democracy are the causes of rising intolerance in the country.
