PESHAWAR: Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum, has officially taken over as the head of Pakistan’s premier military intelligence agency, the ISI [inter-service intelligence], on 20 November.
Prior to his appointment, he was the Commander of the Karachi Corps. He has replaced former ISI chief Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed, who has now been appointed commander of Peshawar Corps.

The Pakistani military announced the appointment of Gen. Anjum on October 6, but Prime Minister Imran Khan confirmed his appointment three weeks later. Gen. Anjum, a member of the Pakistan Army’s Punjab military unit, received training at the Royal College of Defense and served in Balochistan, the tribal areas and Karachi. General Anjum served as the brigade chief during Pakistan’s military operations in the tribal areas.
General Hameed is being appointed the most senior army commander in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at a time when the government says it is in talks with the Tehreek-e- Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in the tribal areas. General Hameed may be pushing for an agreement with the TTP through his contacts with the Afghan Taliban. Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum was commissioned in the Punjab Regiment’s Light Anti-Tank Battalion. He has experience in command staff and instructional assignments. According to ISPR, Lt. Gen. Anjum is a graduate of Combined Arms Training Center United Kingdom.
According to ISPR, Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed is also a graduate of Staff College Quetta. He is also a graduate of Advanced Staff Course UK. Anjum holds a Masters Degree from King’s College London and National Defence University (NDU) Islamabad. He has extensive command experience in both conventional and non-conventional threats.
Lt. Gen. Nadeem Ahmed Anjum has commanded the western border and the Line of Control (LOC). He has also served for long time in Balochistan. He has commanded the infantry brigade in South Waziristan. Gen. Anjum has also been Commandant Staff College Quetta and the V Corps in Sindh.
