PESHAWAR: After the approval of the Khyber Pakhtunkhw (KP) government, the Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar has notified 100% increase in tuition fee for MBBS [Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery] and BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) in the province.
The University has issued notices to all the 14 government-run medical and dental colleges to revise the fee structure according to the new rates, issued by KP government. This new fee policy will be applicable in the admission session of 2021-22 in 14 medical colleges of the province.

The annual fee for open merit seat has been increased to Rs50, 000 from Rs23770 while the annual fee for General Self Finance, foreign students has been increased from Rs413, 209 to Rs800, 000 per annum. In the light of which new entrants will be charged according to the new rate ie 100% increase.
The KP government has notified increase in admission fee at medical colleges at a time when the people are reeling under inflation and economic crisis. Daily Mashriq on Tuesday reported that besides admission fee, the government has planned increase in other fees of the medical colleges.
The report said that the decision was made on 4 December during a meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health and Finance Taimur Salim Jhagra. Provincial Secretary Tahir Orakzai, Chairman of the provincial admission Committee and Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University, Peshawar, Professor Dr Ziaul Haq, Registrar of Khyber Medical University Arshad Saleem Gandapur, Convener of Khyber Medical University Dr Jawad Ahmed, Deputy Director Admission of Khyber Medical University and chief provincial admission committee Mohammad Irshad Khan participated in the meeting.
