PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party (ANP) on Tuesday announced its support for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on the mayor seat in Kohat.
The PPP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Information Secretary Malik Amjad Afridi and the ANP Kohat organizer Dr Safdar has announced the alliance during a press conference. Afridi said that in return the PPP will support the ANP candidates at Dera Tehsil [sub-district] level “to root out the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf from the district.” The local government elections will held in 17 districts of the province on 19 December.

Meanwhile, the election preparations are in full swing across the province and the ministers are also busy in polls code violations by announcing developmental packages. The election commission of Pakistan has imposed fines on some senior ministers but the code violation could not be stopped. The election commission of Pakistan spokesman Sohail Ahmad told Mashriq Tv that the commission has taken notices of the ministers’ participation in election campaigns. He said fines have been imposed on the ministers and action will be taken under relevant laws.
The Local Government elections candidates have been openly violating the election code of conduct by posters, banners and hoardings larger than sizes specified by the Election Commission of Pakistan but the authorities have adopted complete silence. The election are scheduled on 19 December. In Peshawar, 1.9 million registered voters will use their rights to vote in 17 districts but since people are not taking part in political activities, it will be difficult to bring them to the polling stations on the Election Day.
The candidates will continue their election campaign till midnight of 17th December. The streets, roads, intersections and walls of all 17 districts including DI Khan, Kohat, Bannu and DI Khan are a buzzing with large size banners and posters, violating the election code of conduct.
