PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a special squad called “Ababeel squad” to curb street crimes and maintain peace in the city.
Initially, the squad consists of 200 motorcycles and 800 trained police personnel who will patrol the city streets round the clock. Dressed in special uniform, the Ababeel Squad will be equipped with wireless communication, body cameras, drone cameras and other state-of-the-art equipment.

The city has been divided into 100 beats in terms of crime rate for patrolling the Ababeel squad, with two rider squads patrolling each beat at the same time. It will have 200 more motorcycles and 800 police personnel, soon.
The Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has said that because of the growing population, the rate of street crimes is rising thus, it was necessary to form a special force. The Chief Minister said that in the next phase, the Ababeel Squad would be extended to the Divisional Headquarters and then to the District Headquarters. “This is another step of the KP government to improve the police system,” the chief minister said.
Meanwhile, talking to media persons, the Chief Minister said that progress was being made to implement the Safe City. Suitable land has been identified for this purpose and a project management unit has been set up while PC-1 of the project has been revised. In response to a question about the recent wave of inflation, he said that there is definitely inflation in the country, but it is a worldwide phenomenon due to Covid-19 pandemic. “The inflation is temporary, soon petroleum prices will see another decline and so the inflation,” the chief minister said.
