PESHAWAR: The fierce campaigning for the first phase of local government election in KP’s 17 districts will ended today (Friday) with leading candidates are making tall claims of mega uplift projects in the city. Preparations for the polls are in full swing, but the people are showing little enthusiasm because of the government failure to provide relief against price-hike.

The city has been decorated with flags and banners for the election to be held on December 19 [Sunday]. On the other hand, violations of the code of conduct are also on the rise. The election commission of Pakistan has notified that the Political activities will end tonight at 12 noon after which meetings and processions will be banned.
Fierce contest among the Pakistan Peoples Party, Awami National Party and Jamiat Ulema Islam Fazl is likely on city mayor seat. The major parties have focused its energies on this important seat.
To counter any untoward incident, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has established an Emergency Control Room has been set up in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat Peshawar. He emergency control room will be operational from 17 to 20 December with the aim to ensure peaceful and transparent elections. The center will be in close contact with relevant stakeholders regarding all local election activities provide all necessary information to the Chief Minister in a timely manner to prevent any untoward incident.
Meanwhile, the Peshawar district administration has notified the closure of all government and private educational institutions on 18 December because of the local government elections to be held on 19 December. The Deputy Commissioner Peshawar the decision has been taken to complete the election process on time as the election materials will be delivered to all stations on 18 December.
