PESHAWAR: Lahore Qalandars has appointed “speed master” Shaheen Shah Afridi as captain to lead the LQs in the 7th season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Earlier, Lahore Qalandars was led by seasoned batsman Sohail Akhtar, one of the most successful captain for the franchise, since 2018. The team played its final match in the league under Akhtar’s leadership and young Afridi vice-captain during the PSL-6.

Shaheen Shah Afridi had joined Lahore Qalandars in the third edition of the league and has emerged as the best bowler from the Qalandars’ platform and took the most wickets in the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League. He is the highest wicket-taker for Lahore Qalandars and the seventh highest wicket-taker in the league.
The “speed master” has said the captaincy of LQs is an ‘honor’ for him, adding that this is a great opportunity and he will try to bring positive changes in the team. He assured the Qalandars fans that the team, under his captaincy, will never disappoint him. The fast bowler further said that he will try to learn from everyone and thanked the team management for entrusting him such an important responsibility.
Samin Rana, Chief Operating Officer, LQs, said that the appointment of Shaheen was part of the strategy to develop the youth as leaders. “Lahore Qalandars believes in empowering the youth. The squad consists of young players produced by the player development program,” he said. Rana said that Shaheen is a world class cricketer and his commitment to the team has been unparalleled and he is determined to take the team to new heights. “We have always believed that young Afridi has been an important part of our squad and now is the time to prepare him as a leader,” Rana said.
