PESHAWAR: According to the preliminary results of the Local Government (LG) elections held in 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on 19 December, the opposition political parties are in lead followed by the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with 15 seats
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl – (JUI-F) is leading the opposition with 13 seats while Awami National Party (ANP) secured 09 tehsils. The Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured one seats each. Independent candidates have won victory on 13 seats.
The elections were held in 65 tehsils of 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, 19 December.

IN Peshawar, The JUI-F candidate Zubair Ali was in lead followed by PTI’s Rizwan Bangash. The unofficial results show that the ANP and JUI-F have secured victories on city mayor seats in Mardan and Kohat respectively. According to unofficial results of Mardan City Council, the ANP candidate Himayatullah was leading the city mayor election with 56,458 votes followed by Amanat Shah Haqqani with 499,388 votes.
In Kohat, unofficial results show that the JUI-F defeated its opponents and its candidate Sher Zaman has been elected a mayor of the city council. According to unofficial results, Sher Zaman has secured 34434 votes followed by an independent candidate Shafiullah Jan with 25793 votes.
Yesterday, the local government elections held in Charsadda, Khyber, Mohmand, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Tank, Haripur, Buner and Bajaur. There were several incidents of disorder in many polling stations and total of five persons have lost their lives.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed Local government polls on Dera Ismail Khan’s city mayor seat after the murder Awami National party (ANP) candidate, Umar Khitab Sherani, by unknown assailants.
