PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Shahram Khan Tarakai said that no private school will be allowed to charge admission fees, annual fees, ‘capitation’ fees and any other fund apart from monthly tuition fees.
The minister said that the government will take strict action against the schools violating the order. Tarakai also posted a notification of the education department on Twitter, saying that in pursuance of the Peshawar high court’s judgment, no private school can charge admission fee, annual fee and capitation fee or another fee from students. The minister said that the private schools have been informed about the government decision.
The notification further said that charging fee – apart from monthly tuition fee – is not only clear violation of KP-Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PSRA) Regulations-2018 but will also violate the judgment of Peshawar High Court Peshawar. Thus, any violation on the part of a delinquent school may invoke contempt of court proceedings as well as other punitive measures under KP-PSRA Regulations, 2018.
Last week, the PHC has issued a detailed judgment regarding the fees of private schools in the province, upholding the decision not to allow schools from charging other than monthly tuition fee. The court had issued directive to the KP-PSRA to issue a notification and ensure implementation of the court judgment.
