PESHAWAR: The head of the federal committee on Covid-19 – National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) – Asad Umar said that over 150 million people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus in Pakistan.
In a Twitter post, Umar said that Punjab is leading in vaccination followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). He wrote, “Punjab leads the way in provinces with 68% of eligible population having received at least 1 dose, KP at 57%, Sindh at 51% and Balochistan at 38%.” Umar said that Balochistan has done a great job in December and sharply increased vaccinations.

The minister said that vaccination was the only effective way to stop the spread of the coronavirus. He informed that the government has started providing booster shots against to stop the spread new variant of Covid-19. These vaccination centers have been set up in major cities where people will be able to secure booster dose of vaccine. It should be noted that the Covid-19 positivity rate in Pakistan has reduced to 0.68%. In the last 24 hours, 301 news cases and 2 cases were reported across the country.
On the other hand, the Asian Development Bank of Pakistan wrote in its tweet on Monday that “15 million doses of vaccines sponsored by the Asian Development Bank have reached Pakistan in December.” The ADP said that Pakistan is being provided 75 million vaccine doses, safety boxes and vaccine syringes at the cost of $500 million.
After Karachi, the federal capital Islamabad has reported the first case the high contagious variant of Coronavirus, Omicron, on 25 December. According to District Health Officer,Islamabad, Zaeem Zia, on the other hand, said in a twitter post, “Omicron has high transmissibility, twice as Delta. It’s doubling rate of the cases way higher than delta. Omicron has double chances of reinfections as compared to delta virus.”
