On December 6, the government announced the drafting the first national security policy in the history of the country. A meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) of Parliament was convened earlier this month in which Dr Yusuf, briefed on the draft National Security Policy.
The opposition had boycotted the meeting of the National Security Committee chaired by Speaker Asad Qaiser. Yusuf had said that for the first time a draft of National Security Policy has been prepared by National Security Division. “Security policy includes security of the country’s economy, food security, military security, water security, economic security, foreign policy, population growth and terrorism,” he had said.
The policy also covers the situation in Kashmir and Afghanistan and relations with other regional countries. The policy would be tabled in Parliament after it was approved by the federal cabinet. The National Security Committee meeting will be attended by military officials and senior ministers including Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry and Moeed Yusuf.
