PESHAWAR: The Election Commissioner of Pakistan (ECP) rejected the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) request to keep the report into foreign funding case confidential.
The ECP also directed the scrutiny committee against to present reports into the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) funding within 10 days.

The Election Commission has issued a written order in the foreign funding case, in which it rejected the PTI’s request to keep the report of the foreign funding case confidential. PTI’s lawyer requested not to make the report public, to which the ECP said, “I wonder how we can issue such an order.” The Election Commission maintained that the report submitted to us has become a public document.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding member Akbar S. Babar informed the ECP said that the scrutiny committee kept the record obtained from State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) confidential. Babar said that if a secret record was unveiled, there will be “shocking revelations”. He urged the ECP that, “The PTI funding is against national security of the state therefore, it should be immediately investigated.”
The Election Commission ordered that no part of the report could be kept confidential.
Former Attorney and Lawyer PTI General Anwar Mansoor Khan said that the scrutiny of political parties by the Election Commission is a welcoming step. However, he said that the report of this scrutiny committee has many shortcomings..
The head of the scrutiny committee appeared before the Special Secretary Election Commission and said that the scrutiny committee has become inactive due to the retirement of one member. The Chief Election Commissioner said that the scrutiny committee would be reconstituted and adjourned the hearing of the case till February 1.
