PESHAWAR: The grand jirga of Wazir tribe in Wana has demanded the government to shift back the administrative offices from Tank to South Waziristan.
The jirga urged the government to stop governing the district through “remote control” from Tank. The jirga was attended by a large number of people besides tribal elders, local political alliance.
Addressing the jirga, tribal elders Malik ShIreen Jan, Malik Ghazni Khan, Malik Azizullah, the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Amanullah and Imran Mukhlis said that they are ready to divide South Waziristan into two districts. However, it is necessary that first government should demarcate the boundary of Wazir tribe in accordance with the British rule and land records.

“Despite the merger of tribal districts with the province in 2018, South Waziristan is still governed through remote control from Tank”, the jirga said. “This it will no more be acceptable to the people of the district.”
They demanded that offices should be shifted to Waziristan so that people can easily access and claim their rights against the government. “Even after the merger, Wazir, Dotani and Sulaiman Khel tribes have to go to Tank for a minor task at the government office which the jirga declared “injustice” with the people of the area.
The grand jirga also demanded the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court that all judicial offices of South Waziristan located in Tank should be shifted to back to Wana, if the court wants effective dispensation of justice in the tribal area. The tribal elders said that the people will not be able to access justice until judicial offices are established in their area.
