PESHAWAR: Pakistan is witnessing a dramatic increase in Covid-19 during the 5th wave as the national command and operation center has reported 8,183 more cases and 30 deaths in the preceding 24 hours.
The NCOC said that it is the highest number of cases since the spread Coronavirus in Pakistan almost two year ago. Earlier, the highest number of cases, 7, 678, was reported on January 21. Thus, the total number of confirmed cases of the virus in the country has reached 1.42 million. In addition, in the last 24 hours, 30 more patients of Covid-19 lost their lives, bringing the total number of deaths to 29,192.

According to the National Command and Operations Center, 68,624 tests were performed in the last 24 hours, resulting in a positivity ratio of 11.92%. The NCOC said that in the past 24 hours the highest number of cases was reported from Punjab followed by Sindh.
- Punjab: 2,385 cases, six deaths
- Sindh: 2,469 cases, 20 deaths
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 1,317 cases, three deaths
- Balochistan: 56 cases
- Islamabad: 1550 case
- Gilgit-Baltistan: 25 cases, one death
- Azad Kashmir: 383 cases
In addition, another 1,786 patients recovered in the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,274,657.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister advisor on Information Mohammad Ali Saif said that the rising number of Covid-19 cases is a “challenge” for government. Addressing a news conference, he said that the government is taking all possible efforts to contain the fifty wave of coronavirus virus. Saif said that KP government is conducting up to 5000 daily.
