PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa directorate of sports has laid off 60 employees, saying that they were “burden” on the provincial exchequer.
Confirming the dismissal of 60 employees, Directorate General of Sports Khalid Khan said that the said employees were a “burden on the exchequer” adding that they were not performing their duties but were charging salaries from the sports department.

The terminated employees also include various sports coaches including Khakrob, Chowkidar and Mali and office assistant. Khan said that they are still screening the staff of the department throughout the province and more employees would be terminated in near future. He informed that the number employees employed on emergency bases is more than 250.
Meanwhile the government has approved monthly stipend for 441 dismissed employees of Utility Stores cooperation. The detail shows that the dismissed employees of grade 16 and above will be given a monthly stipend of Rs50,000. Dismissed employees of grade 7 to 12 will be given a monthly stipend of Rs30,000, dismissed employees of grades 2 to 6 will be given a monthly stipend of Rs20,000. The utility store corporation said that the stipend will continue till the final judgment of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Utility Store Corporation had sacked 441 employees last year in the light of the Supreme Court decision dated August 17, 2021.
