PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Imran Khan claimed that “people have no better option than Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)” in the Local Government (LG) elections.
The PTI chief claimed that his party is still the most popular party of the country. The meeting of the Central Executive Committee of the PTI was chaired by PM Khan where it was decided to launch an effective local government polls campaign across the country.

The meeting also reviewed the preparations for the local government elections and discussed ways to award tickets to suitable candidates for mayor positions. The meeting also discussed schedule of PTI public meetings ahead of LG polls in KP and Punjab.
The Prime Minister said that the organisational structure of the party should be organized for the local government elections. He claimed, “Workers are a valuable asset of the party, tickets will be distributed on merit for the local government elections. PTI is the most popular party.”
Sources said that the prime minister also briefed the participants of the meeting on his recent visit China.
However, another blow to PTI, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday disqualified Umar Amin Gandapur, brother of Federal Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, for violating the election code of conduct. Thus, he will not be able to contest election for the Dera Ismail Khan mayor seat on 13 February as a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate.
The case was heard by a three-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner, Sikandar Sultan Raja. Ali Amin Gandapur had requested the ECP to reconsider the decision of his extradition from the district as he has to attend a family wedding ceremony. The ECP accepted his plea and allowed him to enter Dera Ismail Khan but disqualified his brother.
