PESHAWAR: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Tuesday rejected the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda’s plea against his disqualification and request to complete hearing of the case before the Senate election.
A bench of top court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan remarked that the conduct of the petitioner is before the bench as Vawda has apparently submitted “fake” affidavit and the case was put on hold in the high court for a longtime until the petitioner resigned after casting vote in the senate election.

Vawda’s lawyer argued that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) does not have the power and authority to disqualify a candidate for life. However, the chief justice remarked there is even no right to appeal for conviction in the case [submitting forge affidavit] as the court had made it clear in earlier cases.
The bench said it will look into whether the Election Commission could disqualify elected representatives for life. The court adjourned further hearing indefinitely.
After the Islamabad High Court (IHC) rejected his plea, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Faisal Vawda challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan judgment of his lifetime disqualification in the Supreme Court. His lawyer claimed that Vawda did not hide anything from ECP and have not provided fake affidavit while submitting nomination papers to contest 2018 general elections.
Through the petition, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader accused that ECP of exceeding its powers, saying that the polls body does not have the jurisdiction to disqualify a candidate under Article 62 of the constitution for life. He has also appealed to the Islamabad High Court against the ECP judgment but it was rejected. Vawda also claimed that the Islamabad High Court has issued the judgment in “hast”.
The PTI leader had asked SCP to set aside the disqualification orders issued by the IHC and ECP and order his reinstatement as Senator.
