PESHAWAR: The nine-party opposition alliance – Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) – and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Thursday have made progress on the issue of early elections after the success of no-confidence motion against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
Dawn has reported that PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, PDM president Maulana Fazlur Rehman held talks on the issue after which the media was informed the draft of the no-trust motion has also been finalisised which is signed by 80 lawmakers. The opposition alliance has said that the draft has been sent to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The final date of submitting the draft to the national assembly would be announced within two days. The opposition parties have claimed that several of the ruling party members have assured their support to no-trust motion after they were assured PML-N tickets for the next general elections.
The Dawn newspaper has claimed that senior PML-N leaders have confirmed that the opposition parties had almost agreed on early elections after the success of the no-confidence motion.
Yesterday, The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has asked Prime Minister Prime Minister Imran Khan to resign within five days and demanded early elections.
Addressing the ongoing “long march” in Ahmadpur Sharqiya Tehsil of Bahawalpur, Bilawal said that the marchers will receive good news before reaching Sahiwal. He asked Imran Khan to dissolve the assembly and the people to elect their true representative through free and fair elections. He said that if Imran Khan did not resign, they will table no-confidence motion in the assembly to overthrow the “selected” prime minister. Bilawal claimed they have enough number of lawmakers for successful no-trust motion.
