PESHAWAR: Director General Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Aslam Wazir said that Excise Office District Kohat and the Narcotics Control Wing Special Squad have foiled an attempt to smuggle large quantities of drugs.
Wazir said that 266 kg of hashish was recovered from the cache made in the floor of the truck. According to details, Excise office was informed by an informant that a large quantity of drugs was being smuggled through truck number from Peshawar via Kohat Road.
“Syed Naveed Jamal AETO Kohat and Masood-ul-Haq Excise and Taxation Officer (Counter Narcotics Operation) and in-charge Special Squad Narcotics Control Wing Lal Gul Khan along with other personnel reached the spot and found the vehicle parked on the roadside. No one was around the vehicle, no one approached the truck even after waiting on the side for a long time,” the director general said in a statement.
The statement added that during the search of the truck, 266 kg of hashish in a hidden compartment on the floor were recovered. A case has been registered at Excise Police Station Peshawar Region for further investigation. Furthermore, a team has been constituted for the arrest of the accused.
In this regard, Secretary Excise Syed Haider Iqbal, Director General Excise Mahmood Aslam Wazeer and Salahuddin, Director Narcotics Control, while appreciating the “successful” operation of the concerned personnel in thwarting the attempt to smuggle large quantities of drugs. The statement said that continuous actions and operations would be carried out throughout the province to clear the province from drug menace.
Mahmood Aslam Wazir said that eradication of drugs is “top priority”. He added that contraband drugs are a menace and the excise department officials are always ready to eradicate this menace from the society.
