PESHAWAR: After meeting the leadership of Mutahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), the chief of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and Pakistan Democratic Movement, Maulana Fazlur Rehman claimed that the government no more enjoys the support of its coalition parties..
The PDM chief reached Bahadurabad, the headquarters of MQM-P in Karachi, for meeting with the MQM-P leadership on Tuesday. He formally invited the MQM to join the opposition alliance to make the no-confidence motion against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government a success.
Similarly, the leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif also confirmed the claim. In a press conference in Islamabad, he said that “the coalition parties are united that Imran Khan Niazi has destroyed the national economy through flawed policies.”

Talking to media after the meeting, Rehman said that they are certain about the success of the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan. He accused the PTI leadership of inappropriate speeches and maligning politics and the opposition political forces. He claimed, “Imran Khan is now alone. I am satisfied with the MQM-P as there is complete harmony between the opposition and MQM on the current situation.”
MQM Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that unlike other political parties, the offices of the MQM are closed across the country, especially in Sindh. He said that they were hopeful that being in government, they will resolve issues but the Prime Minister does not have the power in many matters. He expressed the hope that the MQM-P would benefit from the political experience of Maulana Fazlur Rehman to steer the country out of the current political and economic crisis.
The Speaker of the National Assembly has convened a meeting of the lower house of parliament on March 25, but it is not yet clear whether the no-confidence motion will be placed for voting on the same day.
If, according to tradition, the meeting is adjourned on March 25 after the Fatiha for the slain member of the Assembly, then the meeting would be held on the 28th March. However, it was not immediately clear how the Speaker will proceed with the proceedings. Earlier, the Speaker had clarified that due to the OIC conference, there was no proper venue available in Islamabad for the National Assembly session.
