PESHAWAR: The Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) politicians- Aminul Haq and Farough Naseem-have resigned from cabinet after Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) announced that MQM has joined hands with the opposition against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
The notification will be issued after Prime Minister approves their resignation. Both the leaders submitted resignations after the approval from the MQM central executive committee.
Talking to media in Islamabad, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari said that theY have signed agreement with PPP and assured that all points of the agreement aimed at the welfare of the people of Sindh. He said that the agreement is waiting for the ratification of the coordination committee while PPP will seek approval from its Central Executive Committee (CEC).
Agreement
The agreement was signed by Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Bilawal Bhutto, Shahbaz Sharif, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Akhtar Mengal and Khalid Magsi. Under the agreement, MQM will secede from the federal cabinet, in return for which the powers of local bodies will be increased. The Sindh government will present the draft amendments to the local government law in a month. MQM will become PPP’s ally in Sindh government and will also be provided representation in the Public Service Commission. Sources added that issues relating to quota system, census and jobs have also been settled between the two parties.
After the separation of MQM from the government, the number of ruling coalition will reduced 164 against the 177 of the opposition alliance.
