The long-awaited 34-member cabinet of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is finally set to take oath today (Tuesday).
The Cabinet Division on Monday issued the list of federal ministers, ministers of state and advisers to the PM.
In the first phase of the induction, 30 federal ministers, four ministers of state and three advisers to the PM are set to swear in.
In an unprecedented turn of events, President Arif Alvi excused himself from administering oaths to the federal cabinet members, leaving no choice for the government but to postpone the event.
It’s being expected that Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjarani will administer the oaths to the members of the federal cabinet.
After Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Zardari’s statement that his party would not take ministries, the ruling alliance’s future remained in question. Zardari had said that they wanted their friends to be “accommodated” first.
However, later Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leaders revealved that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari would become the next foreign minister. The issue still remains shrouded in mystery as the list issued by the cabinet division does not include Bilawal Bhutto’s name.
