Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Monday directed the concerned authorities to ensure foolproof security for the ousted PM Imran Khan following the latter’s claim that a conspiracy was being hatched to assassinate him.
PM Shehbaz was given a detailed briefing regarding the existing security arrangements put in place for the former PM.
The Interior Ministry has also been directed to appoint a chief security officer to Imran Khan.
A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry confirmed that foolproof security for the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief was being given on the orders of the PM.
The spokesperson said that ninety-four security personnel of different law enforcement agencies were deployed for the security of Bani Gala residence of Imran Khan.
In addition, thirty-six personnel of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and six personnel of Gilgit-Baltistan police were also deployed by the government for the security of the former PM.
State-owned radio quoted the interior ministry official as saying that “Police and other law enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure complete deployment of the security personnel assigned for the former prime minister.”
However, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had earlier downplayed the ex-PM’s claims regarding life threats.
In a series of Tweets, Rana Sanaullah said that the former PM should come up with the evidence as it was his national responsibility being a former PM of the country.
