Islamabad: The Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan has called upon a meeting of the Election Commission regarding the postponement of by-elections at the government’s request on Tuesday.
The Election Commission reviewed the letter regarding postponing the by-elections and local body elections for 3 months. The Election Commission has summoned the chief secretaries of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh for further consultation.
The IGs of all the three provinces, Home Secretary, Defense Secretary and DG Military Operations, are also called for the meeting by the Election Commission Pakistan.
According to the sources, the Election Commission will take important decisions in the meeting tomorrow at 2pm.

The Interior Ministry of Pakistan wrote a letter to the ECP, requesting the postponement of the by-election. The letter read that a specific political party would be occupying the capital city on the dates that coincide with the dates when by-elections are to be held.
The letter further read that the government will not be able to provide security during the elections as the security forces are already occupied in the flood-affected areas. Moreover, forces will be deployed in the capital city during the rally to control the law and order.
