India: An unbelievable and mind-boggling case of inhumanity was reported in one of the progressive states of India, Kerala. Two women were reportedly sacrificed as a part of ritualistic human sacrifice to gain wealth and prosperity.
The case has made international headlines and has undoubtedly shocked the people of Kerala.
An overview of the case:
The two women, Padma, 52, from Dharmapuram district, and Rosli, 49, from Thrissur district, were killed four months apart in Kerala, a southern state of India. The crime was committed in the name of sacrifice, in order to gain wealth and prosperity.
Black magic is still practiced in some parts of India. It is believed to bring wealth, prosperity, get rid of illnesses and make everything that a human heart desires possible.
Three people were arrested who were allegedly involved in the gruesome killing of these women.
Bhagwal Singh, an Ayurvedic healer, his wife Leela and Mohammad Shafi, a supernatural practitioner, have accepted the commitment of the crime. Mohammad Shafi was the middleman who connected the couple with the women for money. The two women were brutally beheaded and cut into pieces. The human remains of the victims were then buried near Singh’s house, which were resurrected for investigations.
The families of the victims were informed after testing the DNA of remains that were found. Padma’s son had registered a complaint about his mother going missing in September.
The police, after tracing Padma’s phone, reached Pathanamthitta, about 113 km (70 miles) from Kochi where Singh, the alleged, resided. Upon further investigations, the police found out that Padma had received calls from Shafi, who lured her with the promise of money.
Police traced the call records of Shafi, who was in touch with Bhagwal Singh. Bhagwal Singh, upon interrogation, admitted to the heinous crime.
Furthermore, the three alleged people were also found out to have killed Rosli because of the same preliminary assumption in June.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the crime had shocked the human conscience. He further said that the abduction of people for superstitious reasons in a state like Kerala is beyond human imagination.
