Islamabad: On an accusation of tweeting “false information” against state institutions, PTI Senator Azam Swati was arrested on Thursday morning from his residence.
An FIR was registered against Azam Swati, Senator Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf, by the FIA. According to the complaint, Azam Swati was accused of tweeting misleading information against the army chief.
Azam Swati expressed his outrage on Twitter against the acquittal of Shahbaz Sharif and Hamza Shahbaz in a high-profile money laundering case. Azam Swati held Chief of Army Staff, Qamar Javed Bajwa, responsible for the acquittal of the duo.
“Mr Bajwa, congratulations to you and a few with you. Your plan is really working and all criminals are getting free at the cost of this country.”, Azam Swati tweeted.
Azam Swati outside a court session in Islamabad told the media that he was neither arrested for breaking a law nor violating constitutions. He was rather arrested because he took the name of the COAS in the tweet and that is what violation is.
Azam Swati told the media that he had been arrested by the FIA and tortured by the agencies.
