Peshawar: The five-day anti-polio campaign entered the third day today in 28 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The campaign aims to cover 17 districts of the province entirely, while a few areas in the remaining 11 districts.
The Health Secretary estimated that about 4.4 lakh children under the age of 5 will be vaccinated against the polio virus. Moreover, Special attention will be given to Lucky Marwat, Tang, DI Khan and South Waziristan.
A lot of people in the districts of KP, due to the false rumours that have been circulating about the vaccines, refrain from getting their children vaccinated. The administration, therefore, is trying its best to convince parents about vaccinating their children.
More than 15000 teams have been formed for the campaign. The campaign is supposed to run from October 22nd till October 30th. Two additional days will be given to Peshawar and Khyber districts.
Since many attacks on polio workers were witnessed in the past, about 25000 personnel have been deployed to protect the polio workers. The Special Secretary of Interior and Tribal Affairs, Parvez Khan, assured that full proof security arrangements are made to protect the polio workers. Moreover, Pervez Khan also directed all the concerned departments to maintain the best coordination to make the campaign successful.
