Wasim Akram, former Captain of the Pakistan Cricket Team, confessed to the use of cocaine after retirement from cricket. He further stated that he was able to get over the addiction after the demise of his first wife.
The 56-year-old former fast bowler Wasim Akram writes in his new autobiography that after retiring in 2003, he started working as an analyst on TV around the world. During that time, he started using cocaine and eventually got addicted to it.
Wasim Akram said that the culture of fame is attractive and can easily corrupt a person. One can even go to ten parties one night. The culture had a bad influence on him. He further stated that his first wife was quite concerned about him and had tried to get him out of the addiction.
Waseem Akram further said that he had been suffering from diabetes for the past many years, and it was not easy for him to shed light upon this matter, but he had to publish the book as he wanted to tell the story of his life to his children.
Wasim Akram is renowned for his fast bowling and for taking the most wickets in Test and ODI matches for Pakistan. He served the Pakistan Cricket Team for 18 years and retired from international cricket in 2003.
