The gas crisis is feared to become much more serious during winters due to the difficulty in the procurement of LNG. That is because of the low interest of the International companies are selling liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Pakistan.
Moreover, experts say that Europe has been buying a lot of LNG lately. For this very reason, global companies refrain from bidding to supply LNG to Pakistan.
According to sources, Pakistan aims to buy 72 LNG cargoes but has failed to do so due to the lack of availability of bids. Pakistan had invited bids for the LNG cargoes in October.
Pakistan mainly imports LNG, mainly from Qatar and Russia. The energy finance analysts fear that the nation’s increasing reliance on LNG has increased the financial struggles for the government, households and economic sectors in Pakistan. According to the experts, the LNG import bill in Pakistan may surpass $30 billion.
