Lahore remains the most polluted city in the world. The air quality index of the the provincial capital has been recorded at 364 which has given rise to certain diseases including colds, chest infections, fever and respiratory diseases. Karachi on the other hand is currently the fourth most polluted city in the world according to its air quality index.
The smog in the city is highly toxic and is responsible for the rapid spread of the respiratory diseases among children and adults. People are advised to use masks and take all the precautionary measures before leaving their houses. A massive rush of the patients is seen in the hospitals of Lahore. More than 300 people are daily on a daily basis um Mayo Hospital Lahore.
The prime factors for air pollution and smog in Lahore are the combination of vehicle and industrial emissions, general waste, smoke from brick kilns, the burning of crop residue, and dust from construction sites. Other than that large scale losses of trees to build new roads and buildings also contribute a fair share to the pollution in the city.
