Makkah: In a rare celestial event, the moon will set right above the Holy Ka’aba tonight. According to Astronomer Engineer Majid Abu zahra, the moon will be sighted right above Ka’aba, the sacred Muslim site, at 8:06 am (10:06 pm PST).
The moon will be visible to the naked eye from dusk on Tuesday til dawn on Wednesday, and will be 98 % brighter. “The moon will be at an altitude of 89.5 degrees, and it will be illuminated by 98% of the sunlight,” he said.
According to the Saudi astronomers, following the direction of the moon, the Qibla can be accurately determined from anywhere as of that time. However, the direction of Ka’aba cannot be determined in cities near Makkah, including Jeddah, Taif, and Isfan.
