An Institute to impart training to budding mountaineers was inaugurated at Sadpara village, Skardu, on the occasion of World Mountain Day.
Sadpara village is known as the “Mountain Heroes of the World”. Despite the lack of resources, the village has produced world-renowned mountaineers, including Late Ali Sadpara, Hasan Sadpara, Nisar Sadpara, and many others.
Commander Force Command Northern Areas, Major General Kashif Khalil, laid the foundation stone of Sadpara Mountaineering and Adventure Institute, which is named after the famous mountaineer, Late Ali Sadpara. Major Gen. Kashi Khalil ensured the army’s support for the local talent. He further announced financial support for the children of those who sacrificed their lives in the mountains during the expedition to the summit.

Being home to 5 of the world’s 14 peaks above 8,000 meters, Gilgit-Baltistan is a favorite and preferred destination of local and foreign mountaineers. For instance, K-2, Nanga Parbat, Gesher Brum 1, Broad Peak, and Gesher Brum 2 are some of the highest peaks in the world that are located in the Baltistan area. Hundreds of mountaineers from around the world come to Pakistan to climb these mighty peaks every year.
