The fear of a pandemic continues to persist in China even after years of the outbreak of the deadly covid-19. Students in China will be completing their current semesters at home to avoid the spread of the virus.
Few universities in China have announced that students will stay at home until the completion of their current semesters. The decision was taken keeping in mind the tourists and rush during the Lunar New Year in January. The Chinese Lunar New Year begins on January 22 and is traditionally China’s busiest travel period. Amid fears of a possible spread of the virus and to protect students from exposure to the virus, the universities have decided to shut down onsite classes.
It is not clear how many universities have made the decision yet, but universities in Shanghai and nearby cities have given students an option of either returning home early or staying on campus and taking covid tests every 48 hours.
There have been frequent lockdowns in universities over the last three years ever since the Covid outbreak. Clashes between students and management over being confined to the campus or rooms have been reported every now and then.
