Pakistan Telecommunication (PTA) declared that Pakistan has exported 120 thousand locally manufactured mobile phones within a year. The export of phones is likely to increase in the future.
According to the statement issued by the PTA, the locally produced mobile phones were sent to different countries on the continent of Africa. The exported mobile phones were manufactured by the Pakistani company Inovi Telecom under the United Arab Emirates (UAE) brand name ‘Sego’. However, the statement did not specify whether all the mobiles the company sent abroad were smartphones or were handsets.
Inovi Telecom is a PTA certified company that started operations in April last year for the local production of foreign mobile brands. Apart from Inovi Telecom, other companies in the country are also manufacturing mobile phones locally, but those are sold within Pakistan only.
In addition to 2G technology, smart mobiles with 4G technology have also begun to be manufactured at the local level. However, the raw materials for the manufacturing of the phones are procured from other countries.
