An Accountability Court in Islamabad withdrew the order to confiscate the assets of the Finance Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, in the case of assets beyond means. The written decision was issued by Islamabad Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Basheer.
The decision was taken after the return of the NAB reference against Ishaq Dar. The court stated that the trial had ended due to a lapse of jurisdiction. Moreover, according to the prosecutor, the court is bound to issue an appropriate order as per law.
It should be noted that on December 11, 2017, the Accountability Court ordered the confiscation of Ishaq Dar’s assets, including his bank accounts and his house in Lahore in the Assets Reference. The court accused him of retaining assets disproportionate to his declared quotation of income.
Dar had also been declared a proclaimed delinquent by the accountability court due to his successive absence from the proceedings — but in October 2022, the court discontinued his arrest warrants that followed his appearance before it.
