Mari Petroleum affirmed the discovery of gas reserves from its exploratory well in Sindh on Monday. The discovery comes as Pakistan countenances a fuel crunch as its reserves continue to deplete, while the country flounders to obtain fuel cargoes.
According to Mari Petroleum, the gas discovery was made in the Mari D block in the Ghotki district, and the gas flow rate of the reservoir is 5.1 million standard cubic feet. Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MARI) is one of Pakistan’s largest petroleum exploration and production companies.
Ghotki is home to many of the gas reserves that Pakistan owns. On November 24 of the previous year, Mari Petroleum started exploring the well. Drilling to a depth of 1015 meters at Mari Ghazi J-One, the discovery will increase the country’s hydrocarbon reserves base.
