More than 250 ancient dinosaur eggs have been discovered in India, suggesting that the prehistoric creatures may have built nests like modern birds.
Scientists, including Harsha Dhiman of the University of Delhi in India, recently discovered 92 nests in the central Indian village of Narmada, in which 256 fossil eggs of Titanosaurus (the largest dinosaur species) were found.
According to the researchers, the remains were found in a region known for the discovery of dinosaur skeletons and eggs from the late Cretaceous period (shortly before the end of the dinosaur era).
The study, published in the journal PLOS, suggested that these dinosaurs likely buried their eggs in burrows, similar to crocodiles. However, researchers now suggest that titanosaurs probably laid eggs sequentially like birds.
The data presented in the research might be helpful in providing important information about the life and evolution of dinosaurs.
